Good news! Our blog has been nominated for the best educational resource devoted to academic writing of 2013.
When you are given a paper to write in a social studies or a science class, that paper may need to be in APA format. Most academic papers are usually in MLA or APA format. The letters APA stand for American Psychological Association. This paper will have certain rules that you must follow. You can use this guide to help you with APA format, but you will probably want to buy a guide or bookmark a page that explains all of the APA rules. These rules and particular specifications can be quite detailed and stringent.
The font should be a standard like Arial and it should be a size 12. Use the regular 8.5 x 11 inch paper size. Your spacing should be double throughout the entire paper.
In the paper, you will have in text citations of all the sources and support that you have used. You can use quotes, interviews, case studies, surveys, stories, and data that come from a credible academic book, magazine, newspaper, or database type material. Make sure all of your sources are expert and credible. You will put the author name and the year of the publication in parentheses directly after the source is used in the paper.
In the center of your title page you will include you title, your name, your teacher’s name and the college or school name. You will also have a left top header and a right top page number.
Your paper will try to prove a point that you introduced in your abstract. You job is to find expert support to help persuade your readers of your ideas.
After the title page, you will have an abstract. The abstract is a summary of what the paper is about, and even though it goes after the title page it is usually the last thing written once the body of the paper is finished.
Your APA body may be dictated by your instructor’s wishes. Whatever your teacher wants you to put in the body, put there. You may have to make a statement, ask questions, and provide answers to the questions. You need to make sure that you understand your teacher’s instructions clearly.
The last thing you include in your paper will be a reference sheet. You may want to use a reference page generator to make your job easy because the formatting is quite detailed and specific. Always keep your APA guide beside you as you write.
"I was totally stuck with my freshman literature term paper - I could not even gather up my sources. I found a great manual on this site that helped me and I received an A+. Thank you!"
