Good news! Our blog has been nominated for the best educational resource devoted to academic writing of 2013.
Many thinkers have been misquoted and misunderstood in the decades or centuries following their deaths. Karl Marx is definitely one of them. For many, the theories that are known as ‘Marxian are practically an insult that can only be hurled at opposing politicians. If you choose to research this man, here are some things to do to complete a thorough outline.
Marx was a major contributor to both economics and sociology. If you are studying in one of these fields it will be easy to decide the direction your paper should take. If you belong to neither camp, you should read up on both approaches to his work and decide which one you want to follow most closely. If it helps you can do a little bit of both.
Marx wrote a great deal over his lifespan. Not all of it can be referenced in your paper so pick the ones that are most useful to your point and focus on them. If you lack the time to read them in their entirety, find good summaries. Make notes so you don’t need to read them over at any point.
Every writer is affected by his or her background. Read about him from a non academic standpoint so you can understand what might have inspired some of his ideas.
This may come up in his biography but even if it does not, look into how others viewed the circumstances that inspired his ideas. Through comparison you can become more clear on how to structure your own paper.
The points above all relate to gather the information that will form the outline which will be fleshed out to become your paper. Decide what the most salient point is and see how all of your other supporting points can fit in. There may be elements that no longer fit as you begin this process. In that case you may need to omit them so that you don’t waste any more time on them.
Knowing what to write is half the battle. As you put it all together all you will need is more detail to complete your paper in a fraction of the time it would have taken otherwise.
